Head Study from Monday night and a new friend

I haven't been doing enough painting lately. Something about January makes me want to hibernate! There is a couple of things that will get me out of the house, filling up the bird feeder and my new friend--the donkey. I don't know if he has a name but I do know he loves apples and carrots. He's still a little skittish but is coming around.
This is my study from Monday night a couple of weeks ago. I tried to pile the paint on. Last week's painting bit the dust--literally--wet paint face down, not a good combination.

He sees the carrot . . .

Thinking about taking the carrot. . .thinking hard!

I know, I really need to get back in the studio (LOL).

Hi Rhonda,

LOL The donkey is cute! Did you see my recent post about the "begging burros" of Custer State Park? They are wild donkeys usually come right up to the cars winding throught the park road to look for handouts. The day we were there they were standing under some trees to stay out of the sun..I did get a few photos of them.

Nice painting ..I imagine painting facial hair is not easy!

It's good to take a break. January seems to be your break time. ;-)

The painting is coming along. Was he a model at your study class?

I love that donkey (you gotta give him a name). Please give him an extra carrot for me. ;-)

Hi Pat, I'll have to check out that post, actually I think I've been there. I remember in South Dakota we went to a place that had lots of Donkeys but we were on Motorcycles.

Paz, you are so right--hibernate in January. He was a model and I'm not very good at facial hair so need to practice more.

We need to name the Donkey--any suggestions?????

A really good portrait Rhonda and a darling donkey! How about Derek for a name! Ok, maybe not.

Hi Liz,
A friend of mine, who's last name is Bray, suggested Mr. Bray. We can name him Derek Bray!

Rhonda, I've been hibernating as well. It's a good thing! Especially when you have a wee one in the house...I love seeing these unfinished works of yours. It gives me a sense of how you work, where the light is, and the texture of the painting. Very, very interesting.

And oh, I swear I look like Mr. Donkey these days.
