Pre-Ballet Class

20 x 16
Rhonda Hartis Smith © 2009
I observed and took pictures of a pre-ballet class and even though this is a small portion of the dancers, they were all so adorable. I'm sure there will be more of these paintings since I love to paint dancers! I'm not used to painting in such a high key but it was challenging for me.

Awww! Adorable scene.

Reminds me when I used to take ballet classes. Except our teacher was mean.

This is just gorgeous Rhonda..I love that the poses are relaxed and natural. I'm not sure what you meant by 'high key' but you've certainly done a beautiful job! Gxx

Beautiful painting Rhonda - your forte is definitely the ballerina - you can see you love to paint them!

I don't know how I missed Emily, but just have to add that she is gorgeous. An amazing portrait.

Pat, the girls were so adorable, I enjoyed watching them!

Thanks Suzanne, glad you like it.

Paz, I never got to take dance lessons but I have 2 left feet anyway--thanks for your comment.

Thanks Gina, I usually paint with darker values but this one is very light because the room was very light and reflective.

Liz, you are right, I do love to paint them and Emily is a beautiful young lady.

I like the line that the dancers form throughout the piece. It's interesting, I was just going to work on something in a higher key...so glad I'm seeing how you're doing it here.

This is lovely Rhonda, nicely composed and capturing the gestures so effectively of the students. And thanks for stopping by my blog...it's great to be back in blogdom!
