Bouquet of Roses

20 x 16

here's a closeup

White roses are a favorite of mine so I wanted to paint a bouquet for the show and I have to admit I really struggle with florals. This is from life but before I could finish it I had to buy more roses and really needed to get a 3rd batch but refused to (lol).

I love this painting. Roses are my favourite flowers. It could end up very expensive having to buy a new bunch of roses each time until you finish the painting, but a good excuse to buy some more!!! X

Your roses look beautiful Rhonda. Good luck for your show cant wait to hear how it all went.

Hi Rhonda r.e Leaf Gelatin. It looks and feels like thin clear plastic and is much easier to use than powdered, as you soak the 'plastic sheets' in cold water until they soften and are abit like jelly, then you squeeze out excess water and its then added to warm liquid and melts instantly. Im positive Ive seen Ina 'Barefoot Contessa' Garten using it before so it should be available in your grocery stores. X

Gosh Rhonda, but these roses are magnificent! Love the texture of the paint. And the colours!

You are right Ms Kitten, I like any excuse for buying beautiful roses. I also planted 3 knockout rose bushes this Spring so maybe I'll be painting them next year.

The opening went well, we had a great crowd and lots of fun! I'm regrouping and just doing catch-up stuff right now.

Hi Liz,
I spent a lot of time tweaking them, I wish I could just lay them down the first time but my skill level just isn't there yet.

Hi Rhonda, yes I can appreciate the difficulty of painting flowers! Makes me laugh that you had multiple bunches of them, oh I know that too! :)
I think you resolved them beautifully, and the brushstrokes are wonderful here. Great to visit your blog.

Thanks for stopping by, sounds like we both share a love of travel. My husband wants to go to Alaska on a motorcycle but I think NOT! Hope you'll stop by again.

Thanks Gil!

Brenda, I appreciate that maybe with practice they'll be easier to do -- someday.
