tea cup still life 1

10 x 12
Rhonda Hartis Smith © 2008

This is the first of my tea cup series. So far I have 6 to paint. I found this cup and saucer when I went antiquing last weekend. It has a beautiful purple on the outside but the inside is gold, like lusterware. You know how I am, if the painting is in my studio, I will continue to work on it so it may change. Any suggestions on what to name this? I can never come up with a witty title so I need help! Hope to see you next Saturday at the Lost River Art Show, I'll be there from 10:00 to 5:00.

Pet Portrait--Mattie

Rhonda Hartis Smith © 2008

This is my little pet portrait of Mattie, a very energetic Cairn Terrier. You would never know she was so hyper because she was posing like a little angel when Sandy took her picture. She was so much fun to paint and she's cute as a button (whatever that means).

More Beach Fun. . .

Rhonda Hartis Smith © 2008

This little girl was filling up a bucket that was almost the as big as she was. Her mom is patiently watching over her--taking in the rays, enjoying the sound of the ocean. . . well you get the picture.

Summer Afternoon at the Beach

Rhonda Hartis Smith © 2008
I no longer relax on the beach because I'm always looking for potential paintings. What attracted me to this scene was the little boy with his snorkling gear on. He wore it all day long but I don't think he actually saw any underwater creatures--he was definately ready though. I can see myself sitting in that chair right now talking to my friend Sandy. . .

The Rose

This painting is a little different than the others I have posted. This is my 24"x36" rose. I have to say this is one of the more difficult paintings that I have done. I just couldn't get it the way I wanted it but eventually I accomplished my goal. This piece was commissioned and the owners, my good friends Debbie and Tim are very happy with it. I think it is a great focal point for the room plus you can see the painting from other rooms in their house. According to Debbie, the painting changes color as the light changes throughout the day--pretty cool!

24 x 36
Rhonda Hartis Smith © 2008

This post is in honor of Heather, a lovely young lady that is going to be married on Saturday. This painting was commissioned by her mother from a favorite photo that she had of her when she was only three. Not only was she a beautiful little girl, which I hope I captured, but she has grown up to be a beautiful person as well. Congrats to Heather and Dusty as their wedding day approaches and on their future together.

Boy with the red ball

Rhonda Hartis Smith © 2008

This boy is full of energy (wish I had some)! The ball was originally blue but I wanted a contrast so I painted it red. Notice how the sun is hitting his chest. I'm very close to finishing my 24x36 ballerina--Heather, I just need to get a decent picture then I'll post it.
