Beautiful Ballerinas

When I was a young girl, I always wanted to take dance lessons and to be a "dancer". Well that particular dream was not realized but I did grow up with an appreciation for the gracefulness and beauty of the art of dance. In my opinion, the Ballerina is the most graceful and that is why I enjoy painting them and trying to capture "the essence" of the dancer. I don't know if I am successful in this but I love to try! Our painting group is fortunate to have a young lady that is willing to pose for us enabling us to participate in our own way in the beauty of dance.

Fun in the Sun

I love the ocean and living in Kentucky means I can't visit as often as I would like. My good friend Sandy lives in Florida and calls from time to time to let me hear the ocean on her regular treks to the beach to look for sharks teeth, shells or to just relax. Please view my slideshow with a few of my paintings that were inspired by my trips to the beach. Rhonda Hartis Smith © 2008

The Gallery at 916 is currently exhibiting the newest works of my friend, Faye Christian Phillips, and myself during the month of June. Please see my favorite links for more information on both Faye and the Gallery at 916.

Also, during the month of June, I have a display of paintings at the Health & Wellness Center at the Greenwood Mall in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Let me introduce myself. . .

As a new "blogger", I would love to share some of my works of art. My medium of choice is oils and I paint all subjects but I specialize in figurative and portraits. Your comments are welcome!

This is a profile that I did, I think the lavenders in the background compliment her--9x12.

This young man looks so grown up in his jacket--12x16. I wanted an old world feel for this painting.

This still life is a favorite of mine for two reasons, the first is because I love donuts and the second is because the cup in the painting is just like my Grandmother's cups--10x12. I have a soft spot for anything that reminds me of her. Rhonda Hartis Smith © 2008
